History:
Race Point Light sits near the tip of Cape Cod at the end of Race Point Beach. While there were lighthouse keepers at the lighthouse, their children would need to walk down the 2.5 miles of beach to go to school. If you ever visit the lighthouse and do not have a 4WD vehicle to get you to the lighthouse, you will realize how difficult that 2.5 mile walk is on soft beach sand. The lighthouse now is maintained by the American Lighthouse Foundation and you can make arrangements to stay at the lighthouse during the summer. See http://www.lighthousefoundation.org/ for more information.

Hours:
The area surrounding the light is part of Race Point Beach. It is a 2+ mile walk over soft sand from the parking lot at Race Point Beach to the lighthouse.

Latitude/Longitude: 42°04'N 70°15'W

Directions:
  • Take Route 6 into Provincetown and take a right onto Race Point Road.
  • Turn into Race Point Beach parking lot.
  • If you have a 4WD vehicle you can register for a permit at the Coast Guard Station to allow you to drive on the beach.
  • Otherwise, park your car, head out to the beach, turn left, and walk 2+ miles on the beach to the lighthouse.
