History/Info:
Sitting on a hill 245 feet above sea level, the 117 foot Gibb's Hill lighthouse was originally built in 1846. The current light in Gibb's Hill lighthouse can be seen by ships 40 miles away. Gibb's Hill is one of the few towers in the world made of cast iron. The lighthouse was built next to the Gibb's Hill Signal Station. That station is now home to a gift shop and tea room,  in addition to the lighthouse itself. Visitors to the lighthouse can climb the 185 steps to the top of the lighthouse.

Hours:
7 days a week 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Closed for the month of February

Personal Note:
This was quite an impressive lighthouse. I wish we had climbed to the top but during the time we were visting Bermuda the humidity was unbelievably oppressive. I couldn't imagine climbing 185 steps in that weather, and I'm sure the lantern room was even more oppressive than it was at the bottom.

Directions:

  • The lighthouse is located on the western portion of the island.
  • Once on the island, get onto South Road in Southampton heading west.
  • Once you go past the Southampton Princess Hotel (on your right) you should be able to see the lighthouse.
  • Take your next right onto Lighthouse Road, then your next left onto St. Anne's Road. There should be signs to get you to the lighthouse.
