History/Info:
The lighthouse sits at the mouth of the Tagliamento River at Bibione.
Apparently the area surrounding the lighthouse is considered one of
the more spectacular natural areas in the region. Here's a portion
from an italian WWF (World Wildlife Fund) webpage:
The mouth of the Tagliamento River, or lighthouse area, together
with the Val Grande (lagoon) is certainly the most important owing to
the multitude of different environments: the coastline, dunes, pine
woods, retro-dunal depressions, damp meadows, grasslands, hydrich
woods, fluvial dunes and the damp area of the Revelino. Here we find
the most surprising FLORA and FAUNA resulting from the geographical
position which is under the influence of Mediterranean, central
European and balcan climates.

It appears there's a battle between environmentalists and the
surrounding town governments over what to do with the area. The
lighthouse is stuck in the middle of it all. :-) Directions:
map of area
- From the A4 north of Venice take SP75 south to SS354.
- Take SS354 south into Bibione.
- Once in town make your way to the Rio Tagliamento. At the mouth of the
river where it empties into the Adriatic Sea, you'll find the lighthouse.
