Few people have the rare opportunity to own original artwork of lighthouses, but it is fairly easy to obtain prints of various pieces of artwork of lighthouses. The same goes for photography. Anyone own an original Jean Guichard photo? Probably very few people do. But I bet many of us have prints/posters of his photographs. Lighthouse Artists & Photographers
List of Lighthouse artists and photographers on the Internet There is one family of artists whose art has depicted so much of Maine, and of lighthouses. The family is the Wyeth family, specifically NC, Andrew, and Jamie. Both Andrew and Jamie have painted Maine Lighthouses. One in particular on Southern Island is the residence of Jamie Wyeth.
Jamie Wyeth painted "Iris At Sea" for the Lighthouse Preservation Society with limited prints going for $300 each. The proceeds went to the Society. Since then the print has been released for general sale and you can buy it from art.com by clicking on the link above. I encourage people to visit the Wyeth's official web page at http://www.wyethhurd.com . Also, if you're ever in Rockland, Maine checking out Rockland Breakwater Light, Owl's Head Light, nearby Marshall Point Light in Port Clyde, or Curtis Island Light and Indian Island Light in the Camden area, we suggest going to the Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center in Rockland. The paintings of Wisconsin artist Kathleen Hosch transform oil to life, bringing together the divergent halves inherent in "still-life." For, if it is really life, how can it be "still?" How can one "capture" in one dimension something that is not only multi-faceted but that is also fundamentally dynamic? Even where motion is not perceivable, it is undeniably still there -- as the breath of photosynthesis, or the wafting of a sweet fragrence. Yet, in outward contrast to the
artist's journey into phenomenon and sensation, another prominent theme
in her work is the strength and silence of the lonely, isolated
lighthouse. Now, it can almost be said that the topic of lighthouses is
unique, a genre into itself - the maritime version of the American
cowboy theme. Not so, claims the artist, who feels her interest is
