Owl's Head light sits atop a hill just south of
Rockland, Maine at the southern tip of Rockland Harbor. The lighthouse itself is quite
small, only 20 feet tall, but because it sits atop a hill it is 100 feet above the waterline. The
lighthouse and keeper's house are property of the US Coast Guard but the grounds are open
to the public and you can climb the many step up to the
lighthouse itself. Be careful if you are there on a foggy
day - the foghorn is VERY LOUD.
Hours:
There is a large parking lot about 1/4 mile from the lighthouse. Park
there and walk the dirt road to the lighthouse. The grounds are open to
the public but the lighthouse and buildings are not.
