History/Info:
Pemaquid Point Light is one of the more popular lighthouses in Maine. It sits atop a unique rock formation that reflects the results of the pounding surf of the Atlantic Ocean. Over the years there have been numerous shipwrecks as a result of the dangerous rocks and surf at Pemaquid. The keeper's house is now the Fisherman's Museum which is operated by the town of Bristol.

While at Pemaquid Point you must stop off at small gift shop and restaurant next to the light. They serve a great breakfast! Also, to get those sunrise pictures of the lighthouse you might consider staying at the Hotel Pemaquid, which is only about 100 yards from the lighthouse. Pemaquid is also a short drive to New Harbor, where you can get great seafood at Shaw's, and catch a boat over to Monhegan Island to check out the lighthouse there.

Hours:
The parking lot and museum are open daily in the summer. There is a small fee to park in the lot.

Personal Notes:
I'd have to say this is our favorite lighthouse. To get the fullest experience spend a weekend at Hotel Pemaquid, which is less than 100 yards from the entrance to the small park. That'll give you the opportunity to see the lighthouse at dusk and dawn. You're also a short drive to New Harbor where you can take a ferry over to Monhegan Island and enjoy lunch and dinner at Shaw's Lobster House.

• From I-95 Take route 1 north through Brunswick and Bath, Maine.
• In Damariscotta, take the exit for Main St/Route 129.
• Take Main St. through "downtown" Damariscotta. Once through the downtown area take a right onto Route 129.
• Follow Route 129 for 2.9 miles then bear left onto Route 130.
• Take Route 130 for 11.5 miles then bear left onto Bristol Rd.
• Continue straight for a few hundred yards and you'll be at the entrance to the small park surrounding Pemaquid Point Lighthouse.
