Cyberlights Lighthouses - Deer Island

Last Visited: April, 2002

History/Info:
The present Deer Island light looks more light a street light than a lighthouse. But despite its appearance it is indeed an active aid to navigation. In 1982 this  light replaced i the original spark plug style lighthouse which was removed after many years of neglect and deterioration. The original sparkplug was built in 1890.

Latitude/Longitude: 42°20'N 70°57'W

Directions:

  • Although the light can been seen off in the distance from Winthrop Beach in Winthrop, Ma. the best views are from boats. Many tour boats of the Boston Harbor Islands pass this lighthouse. See our Lighthouse Tours page for more information.
