Race Point Light sits near the tip of Cape Cod at
the end of Race Point Beach. While there were lighthouse keepers at
the lighthouse, their children would need to walk down the 2.5 miles
of beach to go to school. If you ever visit the lighthouse and do
not have a 4WD vehicle to get you to the lighthouse, you will
realize how difficult that 2.5 mile walk is on soft beach sand. The
lighthouse now is maintained by the American
Lighthouse Foundation and you can make arrangements to stay at the
lighthouse during the summer. See
http://www.lighthousefoundation.org/ for more information.
Hours:
The area surrounding the light is part of Race Point Beach. It is a
2+ mile walk over soft sand from the parking lot at Race Point Beach
to the lighthouse.
