History/Info:
The lighthouse, located on the south side of Hereford Inlet, was activated in 1874 and can be seen for a distance of thirteen nautical miles. A strong storm in 1913 caused serious damage to the foundation of the lighthouse and required that it be moved. It was moved west about 150 feet to its present location. In 1964 a modern tower with a modern beacon was erected near the lighthouse and the lighthouse was deactivated. After years of being boarded up and neglected the lighthouse was transferred to the town of North Wildwood. The town has done a wonderful job of restoring the lighthouse and surrounding grounds. As a result of the restoration the light beacon was moved back into the lighthouse tower, the modern tower was removed and the lighthouse was once again activated as an aid to navigation.

• Take a right at the bottom of the ramp onto Route 147 east.
• Route 147 goes into Wildwood and becomes New Jersey Ave.
• Follow New Jersey Ave and turn left onto Chestnut Ave. Go two blocks.
• Lighthouse is at Central Ave and 1st St.
