| Last Visited: August, 2002 History/Info:
Built in 1935, this rusty derelict sits at the end of a
stone pier extending out into Lake Erie. Built atop a square concrete
base, a 20-foot-tall steel tower supports a square steel lantern room. The
current light source is a plastic lens mounted on the roof of the steel
shack.
This light sits just offshore from Cedar Point, a popular amusement park.
Personal Note:
The pictures we have may or may not be the actual Sandusky Harbor Light. I
found many sources on the internet that show a very decrepit structure
which seems to be in the same location as the beacon shown in our photos.
I don't know if the old structure was torn down and replace with this
modern beacon or not. Since we didn't want to pay admission to the Cedar
Point Amusement Park or the parking lot to get a closer view of this area,
the best we could do was a long distance photo. If anyone knows the fate
of this structure, please let us know.

- From Huron, take Route 2 west to the exit for Route 6 (Rye Beach Rd).
There will be signs for Cedar Point Amusement Park that you'll be following
the whole time.
- At the end of the ramp merge right onto Rye Beach Rd. At the intersection
(you'll see a Burger King on the right) take a left and stay on Route 6.
- In 1.8 miles take a right onto Cedar Point Rd.
- Stay on Cedar Point Rd. for 5 miles. At this point the road will turn
sharply to the left and you'll see the entrance to the parking lot for the
amusement park. We turned around here and parked on the corner. I crossed the
street, climbed over the rocks to the beach, and looking to my left in the
distance I saw the light at the end of the breakwater.
