This sandstone tower with its attached walkway to the long missing
keeper's dwelling was built in town on the mainland in 1867 to replace the
original 1819 light on Presque Isle Peninsula which had sunk into the
ground due to a layer of quicksand far below it. It is located in Erie's
Lighthouse Park at the end of Lighthouse Street. The lantern room has
recently been replaced and the tower is being restored.

Hours:
The lighthouse is not open to the public, however there is a playground
and picnic area adjacent to the lighthouse.

- Sorry if the maps are overly large. We had a tough time getting to this
lighthouse so I wanted to make sure I provided the clearest maps possible.
- From I-90, take I-79 north.
- Stay on I-79 north for 5.9 miles to it's end.
- At that point it becomes the Bayfront Parkway. Take Bayfront Parkway.
- Travel on Bayfront Parkway for 0.7 miles then turn right onto W. 8th St.
- Take W. 8th St. for 2.4 miles (after 1.9 miles W8th turns into E8th) then
turn left onto Parade St.
- Go on Parade St. for 0.2 miles (two blocks) then turn right onto Route 5
Alt. (E. 6th St).
- After going 1.1 miles on Route 5 Alt. take a left onto Lighthouse St.
- Follow Lighthouse St. to the end where you will see the lighthouse on your
left.
