History: The small lighthouse is located inside a creek at the notheastern end of the Gulf of Policastro by the Sapri marina in the Salerno Province. The light is positioned on Punta del Fortino and it sends out a group of two white flashes over a period of 7 seconds. It has a 7 mile range through the sector 223° to 083°. The tower was built at the time of the bourbon domi¬nation in an 18th century eclectic style. The structure is 4 meters high and it comprehends a small square tower resting on a terrace facing the gulf by the coastal road. The tower has a decorated crowiing with mouldings battlements providing a parapet for the terrace at the back where the light pedestal sits. The facades and the openings are decorated with white bands. The main arched door is adorned with a white cornice as well. The lantern is placed in the middle of the upper ter¬race which is connected to the lower floor by a ladder. The whole building is made of bricks painted a Pompeian red in a deliberate vivid contrast with the predominantly white decorations. The complex is also enriched by a view on the sea protected by a metalpara-pet. It has been refurbished several times over the years, the last one was in 1983, and nowadays it is in good condition.
