History:
How to get there

Take the SP 17, turn at the crossroads you meet about one kilometre after the straight road of Campus. At the crossroads you find some signs indicating "Spiaggia del Riso" (Riso Beach) and "Porto turistico" (Tourist Port); follow the signs for about 2 km.

Pass the "Spiaggia del Riso", the small recently built port, the crossroads for the Fortezza Vecchia (Old Fortress); continue along that road, ending with a rotunda, which is a sort of belvedere.

There are two ways to reach Capo Carbonara:

1) Take the small road on the right, which leads to the military zone; you will find a sign saying "Keep Out" after some hundreds metres. Park in the small open space on the left. There is place for three cars only. You can continue by foot.

2) Park in the rotunda and take the little road leading to the military zone, then go down to the end of the headland.

Description

The headland stretches over the sea, shaped like the point of a lance; it has a wild look and is characterized by huge granite reefs and by schistose roughnesses sloping down into the intense deep blue sea. That sight is enchanting all the year round.

The whole landscape offers a variety of colours: the rock is partly light and smooth, partly yellowish, partly dark and steep; you can admire the thick vegetation and the many coloured and shaded Mediterranean plants, with changing and intense fragrances.

It is rocky on all sides: Cava Usai stands in its centre.

The indented coast stretches to the Lighthouse: Cala Burroni and Punta Santa Caterina stand under it.

From the Lighthouse you can enjoy a wonderful view of the small island of Cavoli and of the entire coast.
